In 2024 the Gender Equity Community of Practice (CoP) has provided a space for professionals working in the community and public health sectors to expand their skills, gain new knowledge and make connections that strengthen regional capacity to foster gender and social equity.

We have learned and shared together, engaging in nuanced conversation around complex topics relevant to increasing health and wellbeing and embedding the lens of gender equity within our collective practice.

If you are interested in attending a CoP session, you’ll find all the information you need via our Gender Equity Community of Practice webpage.

Kiri Bear from Women’s Health Victoria’s ShEqual project guest facilitated this workshop-style session, themed: Promoting gender equality in communications, marketing and advertising campaigns.

The session aimed to support participants to:

  • Foster a better understanding of sexist advertising and its health impacts,
  • Gain valuable tools and resources to apply a gendered lens to content and campaign development, and
  • Explore effective strategies for reducing sexism in marketing and content creation.

In usual Gender Equity CoP style, the session was engaging and informative, tailored to the unique challenges and opportunities that exist in our regional context and will draw on the experience of participants.

Kerrie Loveless guest facilitated this workshop-style session focused on: A Practical Exploration of Diversity, Inclusion, Equity and Intersectionality.

This session supported participants to:

  • Foster a better understanding of diversity, inclusion, equity and intersectionality
  • Engage in meaningful discussions and engaging activities that highlight the importance of these concepts
  • Network with peers to share experiences and best practice approaches in implementing these principles at work and across regional communities

To explore how diversity, inclusion, equity, and intersectionality concepts can be applied in practice, participants were invited to bring a work-related challenge and/or scenario to workshop during the session.

Alex Dentener from Jesuit Social Services guest facilitated this workshop-style session: The Man Box: Implications for Regional Practice.

The third CoP session of 2024 explored the implications of the Man Box 2024 research within a regional context, offering practical guidance on how to challenge gender norms and the gendered drivers of violence. Participants were able to discuss approaches for engaging men and boys in prevention activities and steps practitioners can take to promote healthier identities and masculinities.

Session Four of the Gender Equity Community of Practice will be held on Thursday November 7th, from 10:30am-12:30pm. Further details about the theme and content of the session will be available soon – registrations will open on the Gender Equity Community of Practice page in the coming weeks.
