Today is World AIDS Day and also the seventh day of the 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence. Good sexual and reproductive health includes the right to healthy and respectful relationships, accurate information and safe, inclusive health care and services. Women have the right to decide freely on matters related to their sexuality without coercion, discrimination or violence. Sexual and reproductive violence can include coercive and forced sex and decisions that take away a woman’s right to bodily autonomy, such as refusal to use a condom and tampering with contraception. Family violence can create barriers for women to safely access appropriate sexual health care and fertility control services, including timely access to contraception, sexual health screening and fertility control services, where women have respect, choice and support.
