Let us reflect on this 10th day of the 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence about how attitudes towards men’s and women’s roles and responsibilities have become less traditional, there are still gendered expectations about domestic duties and caregiving of children and the elderly. Statistics show that 95 per cent of primary parental leave (outside of the public sector) is taken by women and women spend almost three times as much time taking care of children each day, compared to men. For every hour Australian men commit to unpaid care work, Australian women commit one hour and 48 minutes.
