International Women's Day
International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global day, 8th March, celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women in the past, present and future. It is a day when women are recognised for their achievements, regardless of divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political.
IWD commemorates the past achievements of women and highlights the current social, economic and political issues of women. IWD encourages women to get together, support each other, learn from each other and share with each other.

International Women's Day 2014
The theme for International Women’s day 2014 was 'Food for all is common cents; the relationship between food, money and health.' This year, WHGNE celebrated the day with a breakfast at Rinaldo’s Restaurant. Over 50 women gathered to enjoy a healthy breakfast with recipes from the guest speakers book. Sandra Reynolds, who authored the book The $120 Food Challenge: Feed your family for $120 a week,’ inspired the group to be resourceful and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

I WISH I’D TAKEN NOTES….
I'm glad I'm a woman, living where I do, and when. On the 9th March, I joined with other women in Bonnie Doon to celebrate International Women's Day, in our ‘new’ old Library. The Library itself is only here because a woman decided it should be, and the event was stage=managed and produced with a flourish by another woman, to create a moment of beauty and a space to be together and laugh and listen.
The old building shone with care and attention, and we sat at tables that were dressed in pink and white, with bowls of flowers and candles and pretty food. We talked to women we knew, and some we didn't know, and listened to stories of women who were brave and creative and clever. We visited Romania, Nepal, and Iraq with our three beautiful guides. We heard stories from their lives and marvelled at their courage and the beauty they produce in their lives now. Their presence in our country adds to the lives of the women around them.
What did I learn on the 9th March? I learned that there are more similarities than differences between us, no matter where in the world we come from. I learned that there were more than three amazing stories to be told by the women in that room. I learned that there is more than enough courage and compassion and fun and beauty in a group of women from Bonnie Doon to light up a new old Library without any help from the grid. And I learned that I should have taken notes!
